Mohanachandra Poduval is a village lawyer who wears many hats, blending the serious business of law with practical trades. He doubles as a plumber, caterer, electrician, and even a driver, while also performing as a Chenda player at festival programs. He is engaged to Sujatha, a talented music and dance teacher who is the daughter of Achuthan Marar. Mohanachandran’s world also includes his younger brother, Ravi Chandran, who studies at medical school, and a brother-in-law, Radhakrishnan, a police constable, who physically embodies the family’s push for stable alliances through a match arranged with his senior officer for his sister Remani—an arrangement that seems to be moving toward completion.

Things take a turn when Devaprabha Varma, the heiress of a royal family, and her grandfather Rama arrive in the village. Devaprabha Varma has been struggling with depression following the death of her only brother, Sudev Varma, and she comes to the village as part of her treatment. Mohanachandran steps in to help her regain some sense of normalcy, and his steady support makes a tangible difference in her mood and outlook. The bond they form is sincere and restorative, and Devaprabha begins to feel almost like her former self again under his care.

This growing closeness, however, unsettles Sujatha. Balaraman proposes that Devaprabha marry Mohanachandran, hoping to anchor her to a practical, steady life. Mohanachandran, however, is not eager to go along with this plan, and he resists the pressure from Rama Varma and the surrounding family network.
