The Resort 2021

Lex, a writer who studies horror fiction, and her three friends travel to a Hawaiian island to investigate reports of a haunting at an abandoned hotel resort. The mood starts light near a picturesque waterfall, but what began as curiosity quickly festers into fear as they lose the path back, their flashlights failing, and the local legend of a vengeful spirit—the Half-Face Girl Nayeli Morales—rising from the resort’s ghost stories and closing in on them.

Bree [Michelle Randolph] is the first to fall, sealed out by a security car that locks everyone else inside while the engine strangely comes to life and hurls her off the resort balcony. The trio—Lex, Chris [Brock O’Hurn], and Sam [Michael Vlamis]—process Bree’s death and push on, hoping to outpace the haunting as they escape the Half-Face Girl, who seems to hunt them at every turn.

Sam is soon possessed, alarming the others as his behavior turns dangerous. He lunges toward Chris, and Lex must intervene, stabbing him in the neck with scissors to stop the assault. The possession doesn’t end there; the Half-Face Girl tears away Sam’s face, turning their nightmare into something more grotesque and personal as they scramble through the hotel’s corridors.

Lex and Chris try to reach an exit via an elevator, but the stalking presence follows them relentlessly. In a selfless act, Chris sacrifices himself to give Lex a chance to climb aboard, just as the Half-Face Girl claws upward, determined to reach them.

Outside the wreckage, Lex finds Bree badly injured and blinded from the crash. Seemingly possessed, Bree belts out a chilling birthday tune for Lex before setting herself alight, a moment that sears itself into Lex’s memory. Lex narrates this from a hospital bed to a skeptical detective, unsure how to frame the night’s events, especially since the photos she took aren’t on her phone anymore.

As the detective begins to roam the island in search of the truth behind the deaths, Lex taps at her camera, the device stirring with a strange familiarity. After a sudden photo of the detective, she notices veins tracing his skin in a way that mirrors those of the possessed, and she lowers her phone as the room around her starts to crumble. The vision resolves into the startling revelation: she never left the resort at all; she’s still trapped in the same nightmare, caught between memory and illusion, with the line between witness and victim ever thinner.
