This era places him under the austere eye of a dictator, Field Marshal Plaek Pibulsonggram, as Thailand pushes rapid modernization in the shadow of Japanese occupation. Traditional Thai music, dance, and theatre face heavy suppression, even as arts and culture cling to stubborn resilience. In this tense climate, a personal turn signals renewal: when his son brings home a piano, Sorn dares to fuse Thai and Western sensibilities, playing the piano with the mallets of the ranat ek and demonstrating that living traditions can evolve rather than disappear.
