What Is The Overture About?

In the film’s framing, Sorn looks back on his youth in Siam during the 1880s, when King Chulalongkorn sits on the throne. A quiet tragedy threads through the early years: Sorn’s father forbids him to touch the ranat ek, the bright Thai xylophone, after his brother’s murder was sparked by a cruel musical rivalry. Yet the young musician cannot resist the instrument’s call, slipping away to practice in secret and letting the notes become a map to his future.
