Valeria / Taipan, Mary Elizabeth McGlynn, stalks San Diego with a mind-controlling, performance-enhancing device that bends an old man into robbing a store—an act that ends in the man’s fatal heart attack. Tony Valdez, Wilmer Valderrama, a college dropout and professional skater, steps into the chaos by rescuing his cousin Reuben from a gang and then entering a skating competition with help from Sammi, Kathleen Barr, an old family friend who lends support. After Tony wins the first round, he meets Valeria again and their flirtation flares as he navigates life with his family.
