Ignacio Carrillo Ignacio Carrillo is a vallenato musician from Majagual (Sucre). After his wife’s sudden death, he chooses to stop playing and return his accordion to his former master, a legendary figure said to have cursed the instrument after winning a duel with the devil. He is joined by Fermín Morales, a teenage boy who admires him and hopes to become a juglar, and by a loyal donkey that keeps them company on the road.

In a quiet, reflective stance, Carrillo agrees to the journey, not only to reclaim the instrument but also to confront the shadows of his loss. The trio sets off in 1968, on Ash Wednesday, traversing a string of towns along the Caribbean coast of Northern Colombia. They travel through a vivid tapestry of landscapes and communities, moving closer to a distant destination—Taroa, a small caserío in the La Guajira Desert—where Carrillo’s master is said to live. The mission feels personal and almost ceremonial, a search that blends memory with music and devotion.
