A chilling coastal mystery unfolds when a mysterious, man-sized reptilian monster stalks the sea and leaves a trail of deadly confusion in its wake. Biologist Ted Baxter and Federal Agent William Grant discover the battered body of a fisherman washed up on the shore, its skin scorched by radiation and the scene suggesting something more science-fiction than natural. The two professionals team up to peel back the layers of a case that looks more like a laboratory accident gone terrifyingly wrong than a simple mystery by the sea.
As the danger escalates, two young divers are killed by the same elusive creature, pushing the investigators to dive into the same perilous zone to search for answers. In the dark, chilling depths they uncover a glowing, radioactive rock that seems to be the monster’s prize and its guard. When the creature attacks, Grant fires a shot with a speargun, forcing a retreat that proves only partial success—the beast survives and the puzzle grows darker and more personal.
Ted presses further and uncovers a troubling truth: Prof. King, a marine biologist in his own right, engineered both the monster and the radioactive rock with a mutating device of his own invention housed in a hidden laboratory. The revelation broadens the scope of the threat from a single creature to a reckless science experiment run amok, with global ramifications. Amid the growing tension, foreign agents move to steal King’s breakthroughs, while King’s daughter, Lois King, becomes entwined with Ted, adding a delicate human element to the otherwise stark, science-driven peril.
Agent Grant ultimately corners the foreign operatives after one of them kills King’s secretary with a spear gun, delivering a sharper sense of justice and motive to the escalating crisis. Ted confronts King about the devastating consequences of his creations, forcing the scientist to confront the grim cost of his ambition. The plot thickens as King witnesses a ship explode while passing over the radioactive rock, a terrifying omen of the destruction his work has wrought.
Consumed by guilt and alarmed by the destruction he has caused, King destroys his own laboratory and goes to sea to try to wipe away his legacy with dynamite. He plants the charges near the rock, but fate takes a darker turn when the monster drags him under just as the devices ignite. Ted, Grant, and Lois race to the scene, arriving moments before a monumental explosion that obliterates the rock, the monster, and Dr. King himself. In the final instant, the ocean seals the fate of the threat, leaving the trio to reflect on the fragile line between curiosity and catastrophe, and the human costs that accompany dangerous discoveries.
