A struggling abstract artist, Hsu Pao-Ching, begins teaching art classes in a prison and discovers an inmate, Chou Chang-Ting, possesses remarkable talent. Hsu organizes an exhibition of Chou’s work, but it is met with protest due to Chou’s history of violent acts and multiple deaths. Injured and with the exhibition canceled, Hsu attempts to understand the public’s reaction and seeks answers by visiting the families of the victims and Chou's childhood home, hoping to uncover the inspiration behind his disturbing paintings.
