Manijeh Hekmat was born in Farmahin, Iran, in 1962 and began her career in film in 1980, working as an assistant director and production designer on numerous projects. She made her feature film debut with Women’s Prison in 2002, a film that gained international recognition, screening at over 80 festivals and winning seven awards. Three Women, directed in 2007, marks Hekmat's second feature film and further showcases her talent as a filmmaker.
