Professor Jonathan Venkenheim unfolds a controversial claim before a film crew: Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein is only a fictionalized retelling of his ancestor [Johann]—a figure whose actual work is hinted to touch the origins of genetics. His assertion is met with skepticism, and even his girlfriend, Annie, mocks the theory as Venkenheim faces a recent suspension. Yet the director, Venkenheim’s friend Vicky Stephens, supports him, setting a tense dynamic among the crew. Venkenheim elaborates, speaking of the Illuminati’s supposed quest to master life while maintaining that Johann discreetly safeguarded his knowledge by destroying his own research notes; as a result, Venkenheim has little to show beyond his conviction.

The journey leads the group toward Canada, where they pause to meet Clarence Malusky, a survivor who identifies his attacker with a sketch Venkenheim presents as a nineteenth‑century killer. Clarence’s erratic behavior—a product, it seems, of his life on the edge as a meth dealer—shakes the crew and pushes them to press on toward their guide, Karl McCallion. Amidst the mounting tension, Annie breaks up with Venkenheim, though his determination remains intact. With car trouble behind them, they abandon their vehicle in favor of snowmobiles, a decision that intensifies the isolation. Producer Eric Zuckerman glimpses a shadowy figure, while Venkenheim insists he can sense the monster’s presence. The wilderness echoes with howls as wolves punctuate the cold air, and Karl McCallion doubts the creature’s existence, suggesting a bear and telling a cautionary tale to remind the team of nature’s indiscriminate power. That warning proves prescient when a terrifying growl interrupts the night, and Brian reacts with fear to the unseen threat.

When dawn breaks, a snowmobile is vandalized and another is stolen, raising the stakes and suspicion. Karl disappears to pursue the vandal, despite Venkenheim’s protests, and soon the group discovers Karl’s body. Panic erupts, and Luke Hill’s snowmobile becomes the lone thread to safety as he ventures to summon help. A fierce storm settles in, and the group confronts the possibility that the monster has claimed Luke as well. Venkenheim proposes appealing to the creature’s humanity, arguing that it is intelligent and might seek companionship, but Vicky Stephens questions the idea while grappling with fear.

As the landscape grows bleaker, the trio—Luke Hill, Vicky Stephens, Venkenheim, and the others—press forward on foot, following Luke’s tracks toward a distant signal of aid. They come across Luke’s abandoned snowmobile and split up to search. The discovery of Luke’s body confirms the monster’s lethal reach, and Brian is killed when the creature attacks in a brutal encounter. Venkenheim, still intent on reasoning with the threat, urges a return to the yurt and patience for rescue, but danger closes in. The monster infiltrates the yurt, driving Eric to panic and meeting a fatal end. In a final, fateful attempt to negotiate with the creature, Venkenheim reaches out, only to be ripped apart off-camera, while Vicky Stephens cowers as the creature recklessly assaults the space.

The confrontation culminates with the monster breaking through, seizing Vicky Stephens along with the eerie, red-headed doll found earlier in the yurt, and departing into the snow. The film leaves a stark impression of a study in obsession—one man’s relentless pursuit of a hidden science and the peril it invites when confronted by a force that defies simple explanation.
