An off Floridian coastline hides a mostly deserted island long believed to house the fabled fountain of youth, and it becomes the backdrop for a lighthearted clash between youth, curiosity, and a hint of scheming wealth. A teenage rock band, The Wild Ones, lands there with their crew of swimsuit-clad friends, including Frankie and Nanette, along with their quick-witted sidekick Dodo. They arrive by a crowded powerboat, ostensibly for a scavenger hunt, but the story quickly settles into moments of song and easy beachside dancing that fill much of their screen time.
The island’s wealthy owner, George Wellington, decides to remove the intruders and calls on his daughter, Junior Wellington, to carry out the task. Junior, who is pregnant, is eager to reunite with the island’s only resident, the rotund, toupee-wearing botanist Irving. Yet Irving seems more enchanted by flowers and his bicycle than by romantic pursuits, which sets up a gentle tension between duty and desire on the island. George Wellington asks Irving to spy on the teenagers, a role he accepts by donning a sweatshirt that reads “Fink University,” and by joining the group in dancing the Turtle, a playful moment that blurs the line between observer and participant.
Meanwhile, Irving’s twin brother, Herman Gonjular, who is also Wellington’s trusted employee, becomes entangled in his own plans. Herman pairs up with his love interest, the scheming Camille Salamander, as they plot to uncover the fountain of youth first. The two brothers operate in parallel but with opposite aims, their schemes threaded through conversations, conspiratorial glances, and shared schemes to outpace the teenagers. The interplay of family, romance, loyalty, and ambition drives the narrative, giving the island a gentle tension beneath the breezy, sun-soaked surface.
Across the island, the teenagers’ carefree mood—crooning to one another and enjoying the sandy beaches—creates a melodic contrast with the adults’ strategic maneuvering. The story weaves together humor, light romance, and a touch of mystery as the characters pursue the mythic goal that drew them to the island in the first place. The film balances moments of whimsy with quieter character beats, painting a picture of summer escapades that linger long after the waves recede.
