Late one evening, Kent Smith in the role of Frank Lucas, a licensed appraiser, heads to the home of a deceased client to finish inventory of the estate, which includes ancient artifacts. In the dim basement he uncovers a sarcophagus containing a mummy wearing a solid gold amulet that features a cat’s head with emerald eyes. While Lucas is out of the room, Keye Luke as Joe Sung slips from the shadows and steals the amulet from the mummy, unwittingly unleashing a curse laid down thousands of years ago by a cat goddess. When Lucas returns, Sung slips back into the darkness, and the newly awakened force attacks him in turn: Lucas is promptly clawed to death by a mysterious black feline whose cry sounds like a jackal.
