Milo Boyd, an ex-NYPD detective turned bounty hunter, finds himself tangled in a chaotic mix when his ex-wife Nicole Hurley, a determined investigative reporter, is arrested for an incident involving a police officer. Nicole hastily skips her bail hearing upon receiving a crucial tip about a story she’s pursuing—what seems like a suicide that could actually be a murder. This reckless decision leads to a warrant for her arrest just as she is about to meet her informant, who gets kidnapped before she can get the information.

Thrilled by the prospective $5,000 bounty, Milo, played by Gerard Butler, eagerly takes on the task of tracking down Nicole. His adventure begins with an interrogation of her mother, Kitty, a vibrant cabaret singer, at a New Jersey racetrack. Their quest leads to various escapades, including a fateful return to the poignant “Cupid’s Cabin” hotel from their honeymoon.
