The Blazing Temple 1976

After discovering that Shaolin is tied to Liu and the Eight Swordsmen—rebels—Emperor Yong Zheng orders General Kim and his cannon squad to lay waste to the Temple, setting a brutal force on a sacred site. With little warning, Kim’s soldiers unleash their fire, and the Temple is struck by rapid, devastating destruction that leaves a horrifying wake of death and ruin. In the midst of the chaos, the abbot clings to a rigid tradition: the only exit for the students is through the hall of 18 Bronzemen, a rite meant to test muster and resolve even as danger closes in.

The halls quickly flood with panicked students, ill-prepared for the brutal trials that await them at the hands of the Bronzemen. The sound of clashing armor and the oppressive silence that follows paint a grim picture of faith under siege, as the temple trembles and dust fills the air. Yet even as fear mounts, the abbot remains determined to shepherd as many as possible to safety, insisting that tradition be honored even amid catastrophe.

Overwhelmed by the gravity of his decision, the abbot seeks one last way to widen the escape route and secures a narrow window of opportunity by hoisting an enormous stone, creating a passage for the students to dash beneath. In a selfless act that costs him dearly, he is unable to save himself, and as the stone settles back, the abbot entrusts the final copy of the famed “18 styles” of kung fu to his trusted student Siu, Carter Huang Chia-Ta.

Having escaped the immediate danger, Siu and the remaining students and teachers go into hiding from their Manchu pursuers, while they plot a daring plan to strike at the heart of their oppressors and kill the Emperor. The pursuit intensifies as one attempt after another unfolds, each setback hardening their resolve and sharpening the sense that victory will require extraordinary courage and sacrifice. Their hopes hinge on a final, high-stakes plot, which rests on the actions of a fellow Shaolin monk-turned-traitor, whose loyalties will determine whether the rebels’ long struggle ends in triumph or catastrophe.
