Terror of Frankenstein 1977

Victor Frankenstein becomes obsessed with applying alchemical principles to modern science, and he leaves for university in Geneva to pursue this radical line of inquiry. He works in secret, assembling life from dead matter, and privately constructs The Monster from bodies he acquires from a morgue. When the Creature awakens, the scientist is horrified and suffers a severe mental breakdown, an upheaval so deep that his trusted friend Henry Clerval must visit and find him Addled and convinced that the horrifying events may have been imagined.

The Monster, abandoned and mute, roams in search of food and shelter. He learns to speak and read by observing a kindly family, but when he attempts to enter their home, they mistake him for a burglar and react with fear and hostility. The fear drives him to retaliate, and he burns down their house after they flee. This moment marks the creature’s growing sense of isolation and its resolve to seek out its creator, the man who has rejected him.

Back at his family home in Switzerland, Frankenstein begins to recover and spends time with Elizabeth, his fiancée and adoptive sister, and his younger brother William. The Monster, driven by a mix of loneliness and anger, stalks William and murders him, a turning point that reveals the depth of the creature’s capacity for violence. Frankenstein confronts the Monster, who confesses to the killing and then menaces the Frankenstein family, demanding that Frankenstein revive the experiment to give him a mate.

Frankenstein travels to Scotland to work on a female companion, hoping to temper the Monster’s rage through companionship. He constructs the female in a makeshift laboratory but ultimately destroys the creation, fearing that their union could birth a race of murderers that would threaten humanity. In response, the Monster retaliates by killing Clerval, deepening the tragedy.

Soon after, Frankenstein returns home to marry Elizabeth, unaware that the Monster is still at large and pursuing him. The wedding night ends with Elizabeth’s murder, forcing Frankenstein to abandon his home forever and vow to destroy his unwelcome progeny. What follows is a long, relentless pursuit across seas and ice as father and creature chase one another through a landscape of wind, snow, and isolation.

The pursuit culminates when Frankenstein encounters Walton, whose ship has become trapped in the polar ice. Frankenstein tells Walton the story of his crimes, losses, and attempts to dodge the Monster’s vengeance. The Monster confronts him one last time, and the strain proves fatal for Frankenstein, who suffers a heart attack. With his creator gone, the Monster looks on with unsatisfied vengeance, and then wanders off into the cold to meet his own end.
