In a conservative society, the romance between Zaur Fakhraddin Manafov and Tahmina Meral Konrat begins with a blazing, undeniable pull that throws their worlds off balance. Zaur, the 26-year-old son of a prominent and affluent professor Hasan Mammadov, falls hard for Tahmina, a divorced TV anchor who is admired by many around his family. The intensity of their connection draws scrutiny from colleagues and friends who witness Tahmina’s magnetism, and it stirs periodic jealousy in Zaur as rumors swirl and attention swells.
Before long, Tahmina is sent to Moscow for a professional assignment, and Zaur follows her across borders, propelled by love and a desire to keep her close. Their pursuit of happiness becomes entangled with the disapproval of Zaur’s family, who view the relationship as a disruption to their carefully arranged plans. The pressure builds as Tahmina’s visibility attracts even more attention, and Zaur’s mother begins a torrent of calls and concerns that push Tahmina away. The couple’s bond buckles under the weight of social expectations, culminating in a painful breakup as they confront the realities of their world.
Seeking a more acceptable path, Zaur heeds the family’s counsel and enters into an arranged marriage with Firangiz Laura Rzayeva, the 19-year-old daughter of a family friend. The shift from passionate romance to formal partnership leaves Tahmina to grapple with heartbreak in solitude, often slipping into heavy drinking as a coping mechanism. This habit takes a serious toll on her health, and she suffers liver problems that culminate in cirrhosis during the couple’s honeymoon in Istanbul, a brutal turn that shocks everyone involved.
Upon their return, Zaur is confronted with the crushing news by his brother-in-law, a revelation that leaves him devastated. Yet the film quietly points toward resilience in its final moment: he retrieves his late wife’s grocery list and drives to the market, a small, stubborn step forward that suggests life continues even after tragedy. The ending lingers on the idea that love’s memory can coexist with the ordinary rhythms of daily life, leaving viewers with a sense of bittersweet continuity.
