Stephen, the King is a Hungarian rock opera with music by Levente Szörényi and lyrics by János Bródy, dramatizing Saint Stephen’s life. The libretto, based on Miklós Boldizsár’s play Ezredforduló, premiered on an open‑air stage in Budapest in 1983. A 1984 film by Gábor Koltay and the accompanying album turned it into a hit popular across Hungary and among Hungarian minorities abroad.
