Slaughter Jim Brown’s father, a Vietnam veteran and ex-Green Beret captain, is killed by a car bomb, and the shocking act pushes him onto a drive for vengeance that soon consumes his days. He uncovers that the hit was organized by a Cleveland-based organized-crime gang, and he relentlessly tracks down the mobster behind the murder, even managing to kill a Mafia member in the process. Yet the man responsible for the crime somehow manages to slip away, leaving Slaughter with a burning need to finish what he started.

Slaughter is arrested and charged with first-degree murder, but Treasury Department official Cameron Mitchell as A.W. Price offers a possible path to freedom: if he agrees to travel to an unnamed South American country to capture the escaped mobster, who is said to control a crime empire with the help of a super-computer, all charges will be dropped. The offer is tempting, but it drags him into a dangerous mission that blends high-stakes policing with old-fashioned vengeance.
