Mel Blanc as Woody Woodpecker is sifting through travel magazines when he spots a tempting ad for the Swiss Chard Lodge. The lodge is described as a welcoming spot in Idaho that promises dining for its guests, a detail that fills Woody with excitement. He becomes ecstatic and promptly buys a train ticket, eager for a cozy getaway. After arriving at the Sunstroke Valley train station, he quickly learns that the lodge sits another 40 miles away, with no nearby roads or any usable form of transportation. Undeterred, Woody chooses to improvise, deciding to take a shortcut and making his way through the snowy mountains by ski, all while singing along to his own tune.

Upon Woody’s arrival, lodge owner Hans Conried as Wally Walrus informs him that there are no accommodations without a reservation. Woody, who didn’t bother to check the policy, presses on by following his nose to the warm, inviting scent of food inside the lodge. He gains entry by disguising himself as Santa Claus, an audacious move that delights Wally into decorating the lodge with festive trimmings. The walrus’s enthusiasm, however, clashes with the calendar: it turns out to be October, making Santa’s arrival feel noticeably premature and out of season.

Woody, now with a Santa sack stuffed full of the lodge’s treats, continues his playful descent down the mountain, singing and skiing as he goes. But the mood shifts quickly when he opens the sack and encounters a vengeful Wally Walrus. The encounter ends abruptly as the walrus wrings the little woodpecker’s neck in disgust and mocks Woody’s trademark laugh, leaving the lodge’s snowy hillside echoing with an unsettling finale.
