Aoi Sawada Ryosuke Yamada works as a custodian at the Yokohama College of Music, moving through its quiet halls with a restrained presence. He survived a brutal stabbing that left him unable to speak after he saved a friend and killed the attacker, a memory that shadows every conversation and gesture. One day, he saves a bandaged student, Mika Jinnai Minami Hamabe, from jumping off the roof, and she leaves behind a small sound—a chime—that becomes a poignant symbol of their fragile connection.

Mika’s life takes a harsher turn when she is struck by a car, loses her sight, and sinks into despair over her dream of a piano career. Aoi crosses paths with her again when she visits an old lecture hall to practice, and he helps her access the space, though she mistakes him for another piano student at first. After Mika undergoes eye surgery and begins to notice less numbness in her arms, her resolve to chase her musical future grows stronger, buoyed by the small signs of progress.

Yuma Kitamura [Shuhei Nomura] is introduced as a man from an affluent background who quietly plays piano but is deeply entangled in casino debt. Aoi makes an arrangement with him to perform the piano in Yuma’s stead in exchange for payment, a deal that introduces a complicated web of dependency and trust. As Mika expresses a wish to hear more of this piano playing, Aoi also picks up a night job at a junkyard to support the makeshift arrangement that has emerged around their lives. The trio eventually spends a day together, and Mika reveals to Yuma that she already knew the pianist behind the performances all along, a confession that wounds Aoi with silent heartbreak when he discovers Yuma kissing Mika.

Keisuke Nakano [Kaito Yoshimura], Aoi’s close friend, grows suspicious that Yuma is exploiting Aoi for money and decides to intervene by paying the casino to rough him up. When Yuma apologizes to Mika afterward, the two are abruptly kidnapped, and a showdown unfolds in an abandoned warehouse. A gang’s harsh intent culminates in Yuma’s hand being stabbed by a knife-wielding assailant, crippling his ability to play the piano and escalating the danger around them. Aoi arrives to fight the gang using the training he has honed, taking on the assault to protect Mika and Yuma. In a tense moment, Mika swings at the attackers with a pipe but unintentionally hits Yuma instead. Blame falls on Aoi, and he is arrested for the assault.

During his time in custody, Aoi uplifts Mika and asks Keisuke to relay a message: forget him due to his criminal past. Mika, torn between loyalty and her ambitions, visits the hospital where Yuma is recovering and asks to remain by his side, keeping a quiet vigil as friendship and love navigate the uneasy aftermath.

Two years pass, and Mika finally makes her debut as a professional pianist, with Yuma supporting her from the wings. Yet the question of Aoi’s fate lingers, and Yuma, though reluctant to lose Mika, reveals Aoi’s whereabouts to her in a moment of shared concern. Mika travels to the dock where Aoi now works as a ship cleaner, hoping to find him, only to be met with silence as he hides from her curiosity and longing. Then the chime—the same small sound she heard before—reaches her once more, and when she follows it, she nearly steps into oncoming traffic but is saved by Aoi. In that moment, the two finally reunite and share a kiss, signaling a fragile but hopeful reconciliation that closes the emotional circle of their intertwined journeys.
