Shankar Dada MBBS 2004

Shankar Prasad, nicknamed “Shankar Dada” (literally “Rowdy Shankar”), is a bhai or goonda: a crime don in Hyderabad. Given that his father, Satya Prasad, had wished him to be a medical doctor, he creates the faux Sri Satya Prasad Charitable Hospital (named after his father) and pretends to live in accordance with this wish whenever his father and mother visit him in Hyderabad.

One day, Shankar’s plan comes to a head when his Satya Prasad meets an old acquaintance, Dr. Ramalingeswara Rao, and the two decide that Sunitha — also known as Chitti — should be Shankar’s wife. The revelation about Shankar’s true life shocks his parents, who are left heartbroken and depart for their village. In his grief, Shankar resolves to redeem himself and to seek revenge for the humiliation his father endured, choosing to pursue the path of medicine. He enrolls in a medical college to obtain an MBBS degree, a bold step given his reputation as a streetwise leader rather than a student.

With the help of his right-hand man, ATM, and a circle of loyal allies, Shankar secures admission to the Hyderabad Institute of Medical Sciences, where he again crosses paths with [Dr. Ramalingeswara Rao], who serves as the dean. Although his formal medical training is informal at best, Shankar brings a genuine sense of care to his patients. He practices a compassionate, people-first approach that clashes with the hospital’s cold, impersonal bureaucracy. He befriends a catatonic child named Sriram and treats others with warmth, courage, and a readiness to listen. He also confronts bullies at the hospital, shows appreciation to a janitor who had been overlooked, and encourages patients to take steps toward better lives through small, meaningful changes.

Ramalingeswara, who views these developments as chaos, tries repeatedly to remove Shankar from the college, but Shankar’s wit and the goodwill of those around him continually foil his attempts. Meanwhile, Sunitha — the woman he is drawn to — becomes increasingly fond of him, though Shankar does not yet realize that she is the same person as his future wife, Chitti. Ramalingeswara presses for discipline, and the experiment of honest reform at the college becomes a test of Shankar’s character.

A pivotal test comes when Shankar is asked to answer questions aloud in front of a panel to prove he can attend without cheating. The night before the exam, a patient he befriended dies as he is unable to save him, and overwhelmed by guilt, Shankar steps away from the exam. In a dramatic turn, the patient, the young man named in the story as Sriram, momentarily awakens and utters the word “Shankar.” Sunitha makes a heartfelt speech condemning her father for banishing Shankar, arguing that doing so deprives the college of hope, compassion, love, and happiness. Taking action, Shankar—supported by his friends—uncovers a bad medical practice within the hospital, dismantling the operation and exposing the crime to all. Ramalingeswara eventually recognizes his mistake and thanks Shankar for his service to the hospital. The truth about Sunitha being Chitti comes to light, and the two finally come together. In the end, Shankar reunites with his proud parents, who see and celebrate the change in the son they always believed he could be.

The film also features a cameo in a song by Pawan Kalyan, adding an extra layer of star power to the soundtrack. Additionally, Anjala Zaveri appears in a cameo during the “Chaila Chaila” number, providing a brief but memorable moment in the film.
