The curtain rises on Marty Preston’s (Jason Dolley) heartfelt reminiscence of the unfolding events in Shiloh and its sequel, as though the memories are vividly playing out before our very eyes. The peace of the Preston household is disrupted when Judd Travers (Scott Wilson), a figure mired in enigma and controversy, appears unexpectedly, bringing with him an unusual gift for Marty’s family—an unpleasant offering of dead squirrels, which he presents in appreciation for their past kindness during his hard times. As Marty’s sister Becky (Liberty Smith) embarrasses their mother Lou ([Ann Dowd]), branding Judd as the most unlikable man they know, their gentle companion Shiloh flees in fear, seeking refuge from the palpable tension between adults.
