Amreek [Arjun Kapoor] lives a sunny, carefree life in Los Angeles with his girlfriend Radha [Rakul Preet Singh], running a casual movers-and-packs business called Gently Gently. His laid-back approach and reluctance to admit mistakes bleed into his work and into their relationship, until Radha decides she’s had enough and ends things. Amreek is left heartbroken, quietly reassessing what really matters.

From his home in Amritsar, his father Gurkeerat Singh [Kanwaljit Singh], known affectionately as Gurki, calls with urgent news: his grandmother, Sardar Kaur [Neena Gupta], is severely ill with a tumor. Doctors advise bringing her home rather than attempting surgery at her advanced age, and Gurki senses time slipping away but keeps the worst of the truth from Sardar.

Sardar has one enduring wish before the end comes: to travel to Lahore and see the house she built with her late husband, Gursher Singh [John Abraham], back in 1946. The Partition ripped them apart; Gursher was killed during the riots, while Sardar escaped to India. Since then, she has carried the memory of that house—and the life she built there—with her, hoping to lay eyes on it again.

Gurki cautions against the journey, given Sardar’s fragile condition. Yet Amreek knows how much this means to her, and he resolves to help. A surprising clue emerges when he learns that Radha had transplanted a nearly century-old tree in the United States. This leads him to explore the world of structural relocation, discovering that entire houses can be lifted and moved to new homes. Inspired, he reaches out to both the Indian and Pakistani governments, who respond in principle and pledge support for his mission.

With the plan underway, Amreek travels to Lahore, concealing his true objective from Sardar to spare her any heartbreak if things go awry. Once there, he locates the house, only to find authorities ready to demolish the structure. He acts decisively, halting the demolition and persuading the city’s mayor—the man revealed to be the Pakistani official Saqlain Niazi [Kumud Mishra]—to save the home and relocate it. In fulfilling Sardar’s wish, Amreek bridges memories of the past with a practical act of preservation.

Years later, the truth comes full circle: Sardar passes away seven years after her Lahore visit, and the property she longed to see is finally partitioned into three equal shares. Amreek and Radha marry and return to the United States, where their family grows—two daughters and a son—each child named in honor of his grandmother, ensuring her legacy remains alive in every generation.
