Sanjay’s Super Team 2015

On a quiet day, a young boy named Sanjay sits at home, totally absorbed in his favorite superhero show, Super Team, while he doodles the characters in his notebook. In the same room, his father attempts quiet meditation at a small Hindu shrine. The two routines grind against each other, each annoyed by the other’s sounds. When the father finally switches off the television and takes away Sanjay’s Super Team action figure, the boy is forced to join in prayer. In a moment of carelessness, Sanjay snatches the toy back while his father is distracted, but the cape catches fire from the shrine’s oil lamp, and in trying to extinguish the flames, he also knocks the lamp out, triggering a strange shift that transports him to a temple with three stone statues.

In this temple, trouble arrives in the form of Ravana, the evil demon king, who begins to steal the statues’ weapons. Sanjay, armed with a broken light-up mechanism from his toy, uses it to ignite the great lamp at the center of the room. The sudden blaze brings the statues to life as the gods Vishnu, Durga, and Hanuman. The trio turn their power toward fending off Ravana, ringing bells to drive him back, though Ravana fights back and destroys their bells in retaliation.

Sanjay soon realizes the lamp is essentially an upside-down bell. He smashes the toy on the lamp, ringing it loudly and forcefully enough to calm Ravana, who then departs peacefully from the temple. In return for his bravery, Vishnu grants Sanjay a new toy and a blessing. Immediately afterward, Sanjay finds himself back in the real world, the cape still attached to his action figure. His father returns the remote control, but expresses disappointment at his son’s growing distance from their cultural traditions.

Back home, Sanjay resumes drawing in his notebook and surprises his father with a fresh sketch: the gods from his daydream are now watching over the Super Team heroes. The image blends myth and modern comic-book fantasy, hinting at a bridge between two worlds through imagination and reverence.

The story culminates with real-life photographs of Sanjay Patel and his father, tracing their lives from childhood to the present day and underscoring the enduring connection between family, tradition, and imagination.
