Vijay Sethupathi plays Murugan, a cheerful, carefree youngster in Chennai who dreams of acting and spends his days wandering the city with his loyal sidekick, Soori. His easygoing world takes a turn when he crosses paths with Kamala, the daughter of the powerful industrialist Sanjay, owner of Sanjay Industries. Raashii Khanna brings Kamala to life, and what begins as a tense, mixed-up romance slowly warms into something real and tender. Murugan isn’t naïve about the obstacles in front of him, but he pursues the relationship with a stubborn hope, even as Sanjay watches warily from the shadows.

Sanjay’s initial plan is simple: end the romance before it can threaten his empire. But the situation grows more complicated when Sanjay discovers that Murugan and his old rival, Sangathamizhan, share an uncanny resemblance. The film then unfurls a layered backstory that links Murugan to a legendary figure from his past. Years earlier, Sangathamizhan and his lover-cousin Thenmozhi, Nivetha Pethuraj as Thenmozhi, stood up to the toxic threat posed by Sanjay’s copper factory and halted its launch in their village. The villagers’ health and the land’s future mattered more to them than profits, and their stand became a beacon of resistance against a powerful industrial machine.

In retaliation, Sanjay enlisted Kulandaivel, a politician and the former best friend of Sangathamizhan’s father, to avenge the intervention. Together they orchestrated a brutal climax that left Sangathamizhan and his family dead and the village fractured. The memory of that act still casts a long shadow, and it explains why Murugan’s resemblance to Sangathamizhan matters so deeply to the people around him.

Now Sanjay presents a bold, dangerous proposition to Murugan: impersonate Sangathamizhan to help him push the copper factory forward. It’s a morally perilous game, built on manipulation and fear, and Murugan finds himself drawn into a plan with high personal stakes. The request isn’t just about business; it’s about control, legacy, and the potential to rewrite a painful chapter of the past.

As Murugan contends with this jealously guarded deception, the truth about his identity emerges in a dramatic turn of events: Murugan is, in fact, Sangathamizhan, miraculously alive. The revelation shifts the entire mission from a cautious ruse to a vow of vengeance. Sangathamizhan returns to the confrontation with Sanjay’s base, ready to settle old scores and defend the village that once stood with him.

The clash pits Sangathamizhan against Sanjay and Kulandaivel in a tense, visceral showdown. The fight is not only physical but also a reckoning of honesty, loyalty, and the right of a community to defend itself from toxic danger. In the end, Sangathamizhan triumphs, and the copper factory is sealed shut by the court, a legal and symbolic victory for the villagers.

The story closes with a quiet, resolute message. In a press interview, Sangathamizhan makes a clear statement: when the villagers stand united, they can achieve what seems impossible. The film leaves audiences with a sense of persistent hope, a reminder that courage and community can outlast manipulation and greed. The cast weaves a rich tapestry of relationships—romance, friendship, family ties, and political intrigue—while the central quest for justice underlines every choice the characters make.
