In a field where she once saw a figure burying something, Claire discovers her own severed face hidden there, a grotesque proof that the nightmare is more than a dream. Desmond arrives and the chase continues, sending her toward Tina’s house for shelter. Tina’s concern and the urgent call to the police add to the mounting sense of danger as Claire staggers through exhaustion, desperate for any clue to end the torment.

Before long, she confronts a new, devastating twist: the person who has been terrorizing her is revealed to be Satan himself, assuming the guise of the man we’ve seen, and Duke Desmond’s punishment is to relive Claire’s horror and death over and over—through her own image—for all eternity. The surreal handoff of horror culminates in the moment where Desmond, in Claire’s appearance, meets the end of the line as the world resets once more, just before the credits roll.
