The film, adapted from Jorge Franco’s novel, follows Rosario, a striking woman who becomes entangled in Medellín’s sicario subculture during the late 1980s and early 1990s. A dangerous figure shaped by a brutal past—molested and raped as a child—she moves along the edge of danger while trying to come to terms with her history and the men around her.
The story unfolds in flashbacks told by Antonio, a young man from Medellín’s upper class. One night at a Medellín disco, he and his best friend, Emilio, lay eyes on Rosario. Emilio pursues her and begins an affair, despite knowing she is tied to drug cartel leaders and a violent life; his family rejects the relationship, leaving Emilio crushed. Antonio remains Rosario’s confidante, a largely platonic presence who listens and observes.
When Rosario’s brother, Johnefe, is killed, Rosario’s world tightens around her, and Antonio and Emilio become more enmeshed in her fate. Rosario sinks deeper into drugs and violence, pulling both men along in her wake. She is a woman who often kisses the men she then kills, a stark pattern that marks her course and foreshadows her eventual comeuppance. In the end, Antonio takes her to the emergency room, and it is there that he frames and relates her story.
The film maintains a measured, observational tone while exploring themes of power, loyalty, and the costs of living inside Medellín’s brutal underworld, all through the lens of the narrator.
