As Emma Brackett (Kaley Cuoco) navigates the intricacies of her high-stakes profession and domestic life, a sense of unease settles over her. Seven years prior, she had fallen deeply in love with Dave (David Oyelowo), and their marriage had blossomed into a loving family with their young daughter Caroline (Lucia Aliu). The arrival of Wyatt (Regan Bryan-Gudgeon), Dave's son from a previous relationship, further solidified Emma's commitment to her role as a devoted wife and mother. However, the demands of her work as a skilled assassin have taken a toll on their marriage, leaving Dave to wonder if their connection has lost its spark.

Emma's recent forgetfulness of their anniversary only exacerbates her guilt, prompting her to take drastic measures to reignite the flame. With a keen sense of intuition, she crafts a plan for a role-playing evening at an upscale hotel bar, transforming herself into a stranger with a brunette wig and a new identity.

Dave's tardiness allows Emma to engage in a curious conversation with Bob (Bill Nighy), a seemingly harmless elderly gentleman who becomes increasingly suspicious about her occupation. As they part ways, Emma is left feeling uneasy, sensing that the evening has taken an unexpected turn.

In their hotel room, Dave's inebriated state provides Emma the opportunity to attend to some pressing business matters. She sets out to confront Bob once more, only to discover that he is, in fact, an independent contract killer with a reputation for ruthlessness. As it becomes clear that Bob has recognized her, Emma's unease turns to alarm, as she realizes that Bob is not the only one searching for her.

A bounty has been placed on her head by the Sovereign, a shadowy organization from which she had previously worked. Their agents are determined to capture her alive, and Bob is eager to capitalize on this knowledge. He proposes a deal to Emma, demanding a 60% commission on her future assignments in exchange for his silence. Though he eventually agrees to reduce his demands to 40%, the cost remains prohibitively high, as Emma is already obligated to pay 30% commissions to her handler, who is supposed to provide protection from the Sovereign's agents.

As Emma's hand hovered over the phone, she urged Bob to make the fateful call to Sovereign, acutely aware that the poison coursing through his veins would render the task Herculean. It was a clever ploy, one born from her own duplicitous nature. For it was Emma who had surreptitiously laced Bob's drink with poison while they were at the bar. Her true intention was to prevent him from making that call, a move that would have far-reaching consequences.

In the midst of chaos, Bob attempted to take aim at Emma before succumbing to his poisoned state, leaving behind a scene of utter devastation. Though she managed to subdue him, the aftermath attracted unwanted attention from the authorities, who would soon be knocking on their door. Unbeknownst to Dave, the man they had met at the bar, Bob, was already six feet under, and they were now the prime suspects.

As news of Bob's murder spread like wildfire, Emma knew she needed to make her escape before it was too late. She concocted a lie about another work meeting, allowing her to flee to Berlin and meet with her mysterious handler, Raj (Rudi Dharmalingam). But little did Dave know, his seemingly ordinary wife had been living a life of deception for the past seven years.

When Dave arrived at the airport to pick up Emma, she was nowhere to be found. His frantic phone calls went unanswered, leaving him feeling helpless and confused. It wasn't until he was hauled in for questioning that the truth began to unravel. Special Agent Gwen Carver (Connie Nielsen) joined the investigation, revealing the shocking truth: his wife, Emma Rayburn, didn't exist. She had stolen the identity of a deceased woman by that name, crafting an elaborate ruse that had fooled even Dave himself.

As the full extent of her deceit became clear, Dave's world crumbled around him. He learned that "Emma" had fabricated a meeting in Nebraska, and the man he had met at the hotel bar was none other than Derek Worley, a contract killer with a penchant for violence. The revelation left him reeling as he struggled to come to terms with his wife's true nature: a master manipulator who had been operating on the dark web with her handler, Raj.

The once-innocent Dave found himself trapped in a web of deceit, forced to confront the harsh reality that his entire marriage had been built on lies. As the truth slowly emerged, he was left grappling with the question: how well do you really know the person you've shared your life with?

As Dave delved deeper into Emma's enigmatic persona, he uncovered a shocking truth: her real name was Anna Peller, and she was a fugitive on the run from the law. Upon returning home, he stumbled upon a cryptic suitcase filled with an assortment of disguises, weapons, and identification documents, which hinted at a life of deception. The revelation sparked a deep-seated desire in Dave to confront his wife about her duplicitous nature, and he refused to be swayed by the authorities' attempts to turn him against her.

Driven by a sense of curiosity and loyalty, Dave embarked on a mission to uncover the truth. He dialed every phone number stored on the various business cards Emma had secretly kept hidden, and one fateful call led him to discover that she was hiding out in Berlin. Recognizing that a face-to-face conversation was the only way to address the matter, he felt compelled to travel to Germany's capital city.

Meanwhile, Sovereign, the private security firm responsible for Anna's training, worked tirelessly to thwart her escape attempts. Their relentless pursuit ultimately claimed the life of her handler, leaving Emma/Anna feeling isolated and vulnerable. The tables had turned, and she found herself alone in a foreign land.

The stage was set for a poignant reunion between Dave and Emma/Anna at a Berlin bar. As they sat down together, the truth began to unravel, and Emma confessed that her real name was indeed Anna Peller. Her father, a former secret service agent, had founded Sovereign, a private security company in partnership with intelligence operative Gwen Carver. Carver had taken Anna under her wing after her father's untimely death, indoctrinating her into the world of violence and manipulation from a young age.

As Anna reflected on her troubled past, she realized that her formative years were spent believing every word Carver spoke, convinced that she was ridding the world of evil by eliminating its perceived enemies. However, as she matured, the harsh reality began to sink in – she had been living a lie, and the lines between good and bad had grown increasingly blurred.

As Anna's life intersected with Dave's in Boston, a profound sense of connection emerged for her - a feeling that had long been absent from her existence. Subsequently, Anna resolved to reorient her priorities, electing to accept only sporadic work opportunities, just once or twice a year, to ensure the security and well-being of her family. Despite having fabricated every detail about herself, she yearned for Dave to genuinely believe in the authenticity of her emotions towards him. Her quest for a peaceful existence led Anna to Berlin, where she sought Canadian passports for her loved ones, paving the way for them to start anew.

As Emma distanced herself from her life as a contract killer and escaped the threat posed by Sovereign, she made a solemn vow to Gwen Carver: she would sever ties with her past profession once she had safely extricated herself from harm's way. Unbeknownst to Anna, Dave remained steadfast in his devotion to her, even after uncovering the truth about her previous life as a killer. The couple's candid conversation was abruptly disrupted by the sudden appearance of Sovereign members, who ultimately drugged and abducted them.

Upon being reunited with Gwen, Emma discovered that she had not only kidnapped Anna but also her children. Gwen's desperation to rekindle Anna's allegiance to Sovereign stemmed from her conviction that she owed her life to the organization, which had provided for her in the past. Gwen proposed a Faustian bargain: in exchange for sparing her children, Anna would be expected to rejoin Sovereign and pledge to guide her offspring down a similar path. However, Gwen remained indifferent towards Dave, viewing him as a nuisance that needed to be eliminated.

As Anna was presented with the ultimatum, she concocted a plan to eliminate the perceived threat posed by Dave. Under the watchful eye of a sniper positioned in the woods, Emma took aim and shot her lover. As he fell to the ground, a Sovereign member approached to assess his condition. Seizing the opportunity, Anna launched a surprise attack on the operative, ultimately dispatching her.

The revelation that Dave was still alive served as a catalyst for Emma's actions. She had deliberately aimed to wound him in a way that would minimize harm, and he would survive. With the sniper eliminated and Dave neutralized, Anna prepared herself for a confrontation with Gwen, driven by a fierce determination to destroy the organization and reclaim her life.

As the dust settles on the chaotic battlefield, Emma emerges victorious against Ji, Gwen's trusted and formidable right-hand woman. The student-turned-warrior has finally surpassed her mentor in skill and strength, leaving Ji lying defeated at her feet. Seizing the opportunity to strike back at her former oppressor, Emma unleashes a merciless assault on Gwen, catching her off guard and leaving her reeling.

As Gwen's life slips away, Emma stands over her, a mix of emotions swirling within her: the thrill of victory, the weight of responsibility, and the unshakeable desire for revenge. With her mentor defeated and dying, Emma turns her back on the fallen leader and sets her sights on reuniting with her family, who have been waiting anxiously in the wings.

The return to normalcy is a bittersweet moment for Emma, as she sheds the mantle of warrior and dons that of daughter once more. Her family, freed from the clutches of the Sovereign camp, welcomes her back with open arms, ready to begin anew. The scars of their time apart will take time to heal, but for now, they savor the simple joys of being together again.
