Goddess Rajakali Amman is the gramadevata of a local town, a protector whose jewelry adorns her idol with reverence and care. When a local zamindar tries to steal what keeps the goddess radiant, she makes the bold choice to leave her shrine and walk to the nearby town in search of safety for her devotees. On this journey she encounters two orphaned siblings, Gopal and Meena, whose kindness moves her in unexpected ways. Meena offers the goddess milk to drink, while Gopal, a snake charmer, entertains with his pungi, filling the moment with music and warmth. Touched by their empathy, the goddess vows to shield them and, in a symbolic act, manifests herself into a stone idol, a quiet, enduring presence that the siblings come to rely on.
Years pass, and the once-young Meena and Gopal grow into adults. They live peacefully with their pet snake, Manickam, and continue to honor and converse with Rajakali Amman. The goddess’s blessings seem to illuminate their world, and the two siblings thrive under the protection she offers, even as she eventually returns to her original shrine.
Trouble emerges when Meena falls under the spell of an evil man named Seemadorai, who disguises himself as a benevolent suitor. Despite the goddess’s clear disapproval, Meena enters into marriage with him, drawn by possibilities that mislead her and threaten everything she has known. The danger deepens as Ramesh, a relative of Seemadorai, alongside Meena’s sister, takes a violent turn that leads to the death of Gopal. The tragedy hardens the path ahead and tests the devotion that powered their earlier bond with the goddess.
To intervene and protect her devoted followers, the goddess—entering Ramesh’s house in disguise as a woman named Gayathri who has returned from the USA—embarks on a mission to ease Meena’s suffering. Meena learns the truth of the goddess’s disguise and the sacred power she wields, while Rajakali Amman makes a determined effort to relieve Meena’s distress and restore balance to their lives.
As the struggle unfolds, Seemadorai intensifies his attack on the shrine, pushing to demolish the sacred space that has long sheltered the sisters and their animal companion. In response, the goddess reveals her protective fury and strikes Seemadorai with a deadly sting to the eyes. Amidst the escalating danger, Meena attempts to safeguard her husband from the goddess’s fearsome intervention, but the ritual of sindoor—traditionally a symbol of married life—suffers a moment of ruin as it is washed away in the rain. The crisis reaches a dramatic turning point when Manickam intervenes, using its own blood as sindoor to halt the goddess’s lethal advance.
This miraculous act causes Seemadorai to pause and face the consequences of his actions. He is moved to tears and genuine remorse as he recognizes the truth of what has transpired, and he begs for forgiveness. In a moment of mercy, the goddess forgives him and blesses both Meena and Seemadorai with the hope of a long, peaceful marriage. From that point forward, Meena continues to maintain her connection to Rajakali Amman, meeting the goddess often and allowing the divine presence to remain a steady guide in her life.
