Thaiyal Nayagi is a fearless investigative journalist who works for an online news portal devoted to promoting equality, democracy, and justice. When she is arrested by a special police task force for the murder of Krishnamurthy, she is unexpectedly rescued by a team from the FBI and CBI. The tale actually unfolds a few weeks earlier, starting with Thaiyal crossing paths with the inspector during a routine police check and documenting him making inappropriate comments, which she then posts online to bring accountability into the open. The act sparks retaliation, as the inspector dispatches goons to intimidate her, but Thaiyal refuses to back down and keeps pressing for truth.

Her niece, Sushmitha, stands firmly by her side and admires her aunt’s courage, though she herself is living under a shadowy threat: a college boy who tries to blackmail her by threatening to leak private videos. Thaiyal uncovers a disturbing scheme where a fake Facebook account is used to impersonate Sushmitha in conversations with young men. Determined to protect her niece, Thaiyal tracks down the men, locates them in a hotel room by posing as Sushmitha, and delivers a stern, empowering beating to warn them against continuing their predatory behavior. This turn of investigation reveals a grimmer network than she anticipated.

As the layers peel back, Thaiyal discovers that one man who contacted Sushmitha, Aalim, did not attend the arranged meeting. Aalim is revealed to be a Libyan-based terrorist whose organization is on the wanted list of US authorities. Using footage and a connecting photograph she obtained, Thaiyal traces Aalim’s global footprint. A crucial breakthrough arrives when she acquires a photo of Minister Kumaravel Rajan’s illicit deals with terrorists, which she posts online, triggering a chain of consequences that culminates in the minister’s assassination by Indian authorities. In response, Aalim’s superior, Abu Farooq, discovers the leak and compels Aalim to reveal Sushmitha’s location. Thaiyal asserts that she is from India, provoking Abu to unleash a wave of attackers on Sushmitha, though they are quickly intercepted by FBI forces. Abu intends to execute Aalim, but a military ambush halts the plan. In a tense turn, Aalim saves Abu’s life, and the two temporarily spare one another.

Aalim then asks for a fresh ID so they can continue texting, and, as time goes on, he confesses his romantic feelings for Sushmitha. A pivotal moment arrives when Thaiyal is arrested again by the hate-filled [Krishnamurthy], and she discreetly whispers to Aalim about her situation. Without her knowledge, Aalim sends assassins to target Krishnamurthy. Thaiyal’s ongoing chats reveal more about Aalim’s past as a Libyan terrorist, and her empathy for him grows as she shares snippets of her daily life. Aalim travels to Chennai to meet Sushmitha, but Thaiyal rushes to intervene and is captured by the special task force. The FBI then insists that Thaiyal broker a meeting in Libya between Aalim and their team, under the guise of propelling the investigation forward.

In Libya, a local taxi driver tips Aalim off to Sushmitha’s arrival, filling him with euphoria. Yet a counterstrike brewing within Abu and his allies aims to destroy Thaiyal, Sushmitha, and the accompanying agents. Thaiyal fights with grit to shield them, and when Aalim finally arrives, he clears the way by taking down Abu’s men, even though Sushmitha cannot understand his language. The confrontation ends with Abu being shot by FBI agents, and the agency chief ordering the execution of Sushmitha to draw Aalim out. In a selfless final act, Aalim sacrifices himself to protect Sushmitha, professing his love and presenting her a talisman she had once given to a taxi driver. Thaiyal is left devastated, mourning deeply as the mission winds down. The two women return home to India, where Thaiyal channels her grief into a book that chronicles Aalim’s life and the complex moral terrain they navigated together.
