Purano Dunga follows the quiet drama of two Bhujel brothers whose lives hinge on a single fragile asset. Bhakta Bahadur Maotse Gurung, the elder, earns his living by rowing a boat across Lake Begnas, pouring his days into a skill that keeps the family fed. His younger brother, Batase Dayahang Rai, drifts through life in the city, and when he asks for his share of the family fortune, he asks for the boat itself. The request sets off a chain of choices that test loyalty, pride, and the meaning of duty.

Initially, Bhakta agrees to part with the boat to keep peace, but the loss lands hard on him. With the boat gone, his livelihood disappears and the family’s income grows precarious. On the banks of the lake, Bhakta’s wife—Manu—watches as her husband is taken away.
