Performing the Goddess (1999): Cast

Chapal Bhaduri, the celebrated leading lady of Bengal’s traditional folk travelling theatre‑in‑the‑round, Jatra, spent his life portraying women. This intimate biography brings viewers face‑to‑face with his singular journey, exploring what it means to become a woman night after night, the woman he feels within, his troubled sexuality, a long partnership with an older lover, the loneliness of existing on society’s margins, and his transformation into the goddess she embodies on stage.
