A new demand shifts the dynamic: the sculptor asks to expand his space into hers, arguing that it is “impossible” to work without it. The dancer agrees to share, and the balance of their partnership begins to tilt as individual needs press against shared space. In the studio, she starts to experiment with balance and flight—standing on two legs, tipping between chairs—and these movements spill into performance. The loft becomes a stage, a launching pad for a party where friends watch and the dancer shares a kiss with a fellow artist in full view of the sculptor. He feels a pang of jealousy, yet his jealousy is soon tempered by a tenderness that leads to a kiss of his own with her, followed by a night of passion. A dinner invitation brings a critic friend, his wife, and their daughter into the loft. The sculptor speaks of a sensation of being lost “not to the critic, but to the friend,” a moment that hints at the isolation that can accompany serious work. The dancer, however, finds joy in moving with the child, spinning and twirling in the glow of shared play. Later that night the couple re-enters a bed of closeness and conversation; the man expresses a desire to have a baby, while the dancer reveals that she does not want one. The critic’s verdict is blunt: he dislikes the sculptor’s new pieces, and, as a friend, suggests the project needs a fresh direction. The scene widens as the dancer searches for inspiration in a flood of images—watching videos, studying performance legends like Trisha Brown, and encountering a tape labeled “Line Project.” She discovers that the line extends far beyond the city, stretching into the jungle and toward an institution where the sculptor recorded a man singing—a song the sculptor often hums in the present. The dancer reveals bone fragments from a medical condition her father suffered and shares a secret: she has never shown them to anyone before. She asks the sculptor what the line connects, but he remains reserved, insisting that it’s not important.

In the morning light, the dancer leaves to investigate the line, returning with a knee wound that the sculptor tenderly bandages. The revelation arrives quietly: she discovers she is pregnant and makes the choice to terminate the pregnancy without telling him. When he learns the truth from post-op paperwork, anger erupts in a punch to the wall, and the dancer, not one to abandon him in anger, patches his wounded hand. The film then gestures toward a longer silence, suggesting the two have not seen each other for a stretch of time.

A return to ordinary moments follows—the two meet in a coffee shop, and the woman observes him with a practiced, almost studied gaze, noting how she has learned to “absorb movements” without truly understanding them. The man acknowledges this paradox and, in a quiet exchange, she presents a solution to a puzzle he has struggled to solve. Their exchange ends in a small, shared warmth as she touches his beard, a tactile reminder of intimacy reawakened.

Back in the loft, a monumental sculpture dominates the space: a giant wooden bowl balanced precariously on a single point, labeled “Holds only one person.” The dancer climbs onto its edge and begins to move with a patient, ritual precision, rocking the bowl in a calm, rhythmic dance. The final image pulls away from the studio, pans to the exterior of the abandoned industrial building, and lingers on the cold, looming silhouette of the factory—an emblem of art’s solitary, demanding pursuit and the tenuous, compelling bond between two artists who have chosen to live and work inside the same fragile space.
