Velu is gravely injured, and Balu must summon every ounce of stamina to carry him for miles until they reach a remote village in Assam. There, Velu regains consciousness and his health begins to improve under the care of Indroma and her father, who shelter them in their home. The quiet village becomes a fragile sanctuary, a place where fear from the war outside slowly gives way to a fragile hope inside.
