Uthravathi, known as Uthra, is weighed down by misfortune and driven to consider ending his life. Though the idea of death terrifies him, he makes a suicide attempt and is saved by two strangers: Brunei, a quick-witted call taxi driver, and Pandi, who agrees to hear his story before any final step. To ease his nerves, they humor him by jokingly hanging him upside down from a tree, but the trio decides to listen to Uthra’s tale first, hoping a genuine understanding might change his mind.

Uthra’s troubles trace back to a family crisis sparked by his sister Neelavathi’s rapid homecoming just days after her wedding. She returns after a quarrel with her husband, Somasundaram, and her husband’s reported abuse leads Uthra to intervene with a slap that lands him in jail. Compounding the chaos, his irresponsibly alcoholic father, Periya Karuppu, clashes with the marriage broker and sustains injuries in the process. Neelavathi’s emotional manipulation weighs on the family further, and she repeatedly threatens suicide, pushing Uthra toward despair. A looming court case over their ancestral home threatens eviction, and Uthra’s hope wanes. His unreturned feelings for Kaveri, who runs a village eatery, leave him heartbroken and isolated.

Desperate for a fix, Brunei escorts Uthra to a mystic seer, Kodangi, who prescribes a ritual that begins with stealing a motorcycle bearing the number 8888 and riding it from dawn until dusk. Although Pandi fears trouble and initially pulls away, the two manage to locate a suitable bike and overpower its elderly owner to take it. Once Uthra starts riding, a run of small miracles follows: Somasundaram calls to say he and Neelavathi have reconciled; a court verdict swings in Uthra’s favor; his father quits drinking and plans a pilgrimage; and Kaveri, moved by his sincerity, gives him her number and hints at deeper interest.

Yet the ritual’s completion hinges on a grim consequence: Uthra accidentally hits a white piglet with the bike, injuring himself and Brunei. Kodangi warns that failing now will magnify all his misfortunes—Neelavathi will divorce, his father will relapse, and Uthra will never marry. To rectify this, he must locate the same piglet within five days and strike it again. As the plan tightens, Neelavathi quarrels with her husband once more, urging Uthra to begin the ritual soon. Uthra and Brunei enlist Pandi and bring in Malaiyandi, a humble priest from a remote temple, who accepts money in exchange for joining their quest. Malaiyandi initially freeloafs at Kaveri’s eatery, eating away at Uthra’s finances, but eventually joins the search out of duty. Meanwhile, Uthra fabricates a story about his work in dish installation to Kaveri to keep the piglet mission secret from Kodangi.

The piglet—unique in its rare color—wanders into a pig-farming community where such a creature is deemed auspicious. Thittani, who is engaged to Maragatham, is given the piglet as a dowry and entrusted with guarding it for five days. After Thittani scolds the children playing nearby, a prankster lets the piglet loose. The animal crosses paths with Uthra again, and despite Pandi’s attempt to capture it, Thittani arrives with his men, refusing to consent to the ritual. In a tense moment, Uthra tries a light tap on the piglet, but it escapes and darts into traffic. A lorry swerves, overturns, and it seems the piglet has been killed.

Despair claws at Uthra as he contemplates an impossible ritual. He attempts to end his life again, this time leaving a note for friends, but the rope breaks. Desperation turns to hope when Kodangi’s guidance persists—according to the seer, the piglet is still alive. The lorry driver who witnessed the incident is shaken to discover the piglet crawls away unharmed. In anger, Thittani beats Brunei, Pandi, and Malaiyandi to punish them for meddling in his wedding plans. Learning of this, Uthra confronts Thittani, and both men embark on parallel efforts to recover the piglet.

A swine fever outbreak erupts in the region, bringing health camps, sanitation drives, and a crackdown on unlicensed pigs. Amid the chaos, Kaveri learns of Uthra’s lies about his employment and withdraws in hurt. On the fourth day, just before Thittani’s wedding, the piglet unexpectedly returns to Thittani’s home during the sanitation drive. Thittani believes his marriage can still be saved, but when Uthra asks to use the piglet for the ritual, Thittani refuses, labeling the quest as superstition. Officials arrive to seize the piglet, and Thittani, cunningly, hides it in Uthra’s house while telling Neelavathi to keep the animal a secret. She betrays the plan by informing Uthra, and the group rushes back to recover it.

With the officials gone, Uthra seizes the moment and brings the piglet to complete the ritual. Thittani trails closely, demanding its return, but just before his arrival, Uthra taps the piglet again with the bike and the ritual is completed. The piglet remains unharmed and is returned to Thittani. Awaiting good news, Uthra’s world begins to shift again when Kodangi is arrested. Soon after, life brightens: Neelavathi reconciles with Somasundaram, Kaveri apologizes and rejoins Uthra, and Thittani successfully marries Maragatham, with Uthra, Kaveri, and their friends in attendance. The film closes with the lorry driver seeking Kodangi’s blessing for his own troubles, and Neelavathi finally content in her marriage while Uthra finds lasting freedom from his past misfortunes.
