Two neighboring fishing communities, the Thirukaai Meenavargal (the Turbot fishermen) and the Sura Meenavargal (the Shark fishermen), are locked in a long-standing feud governed by pride and profit. At the heart of the conflict is Manickam, the honest and compassionate leader of the Turbot fishermen, who hopes to end the blood feud that has scarred their village. Opposing him is Alaiyappan, the ruthless head of the rival group, whose ambitions are fueled more by greed than any sense of honor. The elder generation longs for harmony, and even Manickam’s father urges a peaceful reconciliation, a plea that is spurned by the other side.

The real power behind the conflict rests with Neelamagam, a village zamindar who stands to gain the most from continued enmity. Alaiyappan’s unwavering loyalty lies with Neelamagam, who manipulates the two communities to keep them at odds, feeding a cycle of distrust and revenge. Into this tense world steps a tender romance: Manickam falls in love with Muthazhagi, Alaiyappan’s daughter, and she returns his feelings. Yet their affection is treated as a threat by both sides, who prefer allegiance to tradition over personal happiness.

In a bid to secure peace, Manickam travels to the other side to plead for reconciliation, but his gesture is met with violence. He is beaten, believed dead by his supporters, and the clash leaves Alaiyappan fearing for his own life. A mysterious old man intervenes, saving Alaiyappan from a deadly attack and earning his gratitude. He allows the man to stay the night, a quiet moment that will become a turning point in the tragedy.

Unbeknownst to Muthazhagi, the old man who saves her lover in disguise is actually Manickam himself, continuing his covert mission to heal the rift between the communities. When a boat race—an event meant to showcase strength and pride—takes place, the disguised Manickam sides with the Sura Meenavargal, and to the astonishment of many, they win. The ruse is eventually uncovered, and the revelation drives a wedge between Manickam and Alaiyappan. In a fit of rage, Alaiyappan forces Manickam to stay away from Muthazhagi, believing their union would only deepen the pain of feud.

Complications mount as Neelamagam schemes to marry Muthazhagi himself. With no money to seal the match, Alaiyappan reluctantly consents, but Muthazhagi is unwilling to accept a future dictated by others. She is imprisoned within Neelamagam’s mansion, unable to escape, even as Manickam—now wearing a second disguise—strives to rescue her but fails. In a cruel turn, Neelamagam’s wife, Meenvizhi, secretly aids Muthazhagi in a bid for freedom, and for her betrayal Neelamagam murders her.

The pursuit of the truth tightens the net around Neelamagam, who is cornered after a violent confrontation. A subsequent confrontation with the police leads to his arrest for the murder of his wife, a grim reminder of how far greed can drive a man. As justice unfolds, the two communities begin to reconcile, and the path toward forgiveness clears. In the face of fear and betrayal, Alaiyappan finally relents, allowing Muthazhagi and Manickam to marry, signaling a hopeful end where love and mutual respect stand a chance to outlast old grudges.
