Three women navigate the complex path to marriage, each facing distinct pressures that are deeply rooted in Indian society. Rajkumar, Dinesh Ravi, is in love with Kavya, Nivetha Pethuraj, yet his insecurity about her wealth makes him reluctant to discuss a future together. He asks her to wait while he “proves himself,” a stance that strains their relationship and eventually leads Kavya to agree to a match chosen by her father.

Lakshmi, Miya George, encounters a stream of suitors, but her father’s greed prevents any middle‑class alliance from sticking. One hopeful, Mukundan, wins Lakshmi’s affection, but his family rejects the match on account of her economic status. Undeterred, Mukundan persuades Lakshmi to come to his home to seal the vow, and the plan seems to be moving forward—until the moment the couple is spotted by Mukundan’s relatives at the bus depot. They drag Mukundan back, taunting Lakshmi and leaving her humiliated. With a heavy heart, she boards another bus and returns home, her hopes dashed.

Susheela, Riythvika, faces years of unsuccessful marriage inquiries, and her social circle grows wary of her unconventional job and appearance. One prospective husband, Bhaskar, agrees to wed her but backs out at the last moment, often leaving Susheela exposed to insults and confusion. Her brother, Raghavendran, Karunakaran, steps in to pressure Bhaskar to marry Susheela, yet she realizes she is in love with Sathish, Ramesh Thilak, leaving the arrangement in a precarious balance.

Kavya’s own wedding plans move toward a critical tipping point when the day before the ceremony, Raj—traveling in a car with a companion—avoids crashing into Lakshmi’s bus and, in a twist of fate, a relative of Kavya’s fiancé dies in a separate crash. The accident casts Kavya as bad luck, and the wedding is called off. As Kavya refuses to treat Raj as a fallback option and insists on her own autonomy, she ultimately chooses Sathish as her life partner and walks into marriage on her own terms.

In a final note on fate and timing, Rajkumar appears again in the story, this time engaged to Lakshmi after a year, underscoring the ironies and entrenched expectations of the arranged-marriage system that pervade the community.
