Bapputty Mala Aravindan and Abdu Nellikode Bhaskaran are timber traders and close friends in a quiet village. After the death of Abdu’s father, his mother Beevathu’s life is accused of immorality, and Abdu hides a growing shame that drives him to leave the village of Vazhakkadavu behind. He never returns home, and on a long road to the trading center, illness strikes him down. When Bapputty reaches Beevathu’s hut with Abdu’s body, he is moved by compassion and resolves to support the family that remains, setting a tone of quiet duty against hardship.
Nabeesa Usha Nandhini—Abdu’s sister and the family’s remaining connection to a fragile stability—becomes the focal point of Bapputty’s growing devotion. She, too, rejects the life her mother embodies and longs for a chance to escape, though she feels the pull of her circumstances. Seeing a future with Nabeesa, Bapputty dedicates himself to earning enough money, leaving the village and traveling to distant timber depots in pursuit of the dream of a lawful, happy life with her.
Meanwhile, a wealthy trader Kunjali Jose Prakash returns after being away for a long time. He notices Nabeesa and begins to make advances. Beevathu—whose priorities are more financial than familial—urges Nabeesa to befriend Kunjali, seeing a path to money rather than to love. Nabeesa, however, resists the lure and clings to the hope that Bapputty will come back to claim her.
A terrible turn comes when, with Beevathu’s complicity and support, Kunjali molests Nabeesa. Bapputty returns to the village, his heart breaking as he learns of the assault, yet his character remains steadfast: he reaffirms his intention to marry Nabeesa and build a life with her. Nabeesa, overwhelmed by fear and despair, pleads with him to leave her and protect himself from the tangled web of danger around them.
The story culminates in tragedy: Nabeesa takes her own life, leaving behind a swollen corpse washed ashore. Bapputty, unable to reconcile the dream of a shared future with the stark reality of loss, watches the scene in silence and walks away from the village, carrying the weight of what has happened. The film leaves a stark image of love tested by greed and violence, and the enduring ache of hopeful hearts undone by circumstance.
