Odd Thomas is a gifted young man who lives in a quiet California town, where his unusual ability lets him see mysterious figures he calls bodachs—spectral presences that feed on fear and misery. The more bodachs he notices gathering, the more danger and bad news are likely to follow for ordinary people. In this calm setting, Odd’s life takes a tense turn when he spots a strange man who seems to be surrounded by bodachs. The man’s odd, fungal-looking hair makes an impression, and Odd quickly nicknames him “Fungus Bob.” What begins as a sketchy hunch evolves into a deep, corner-turning investigation.
