During the Christmas holidays, three intertwined stories unfold as Italian travelers head to New York City for the festive season, weaving romance, ambition, and unexpected twists under the bright lights of the city.
Camillo “Lillo” Ferri, Christian De Sica, is a penniless pianist who has secured a comfortable life by marrying Milena Ferri, Fiorenza Marchegiani. They live with Milena’s devoted daughter Carlotta, Elisabetta Canalis, and enjoy a stable arrangement on the surface. Yet Lillo remains drawn to Barbara, Sabrina Ferilli, a bold, unpretentious woman from Rome with whom he once shared something real. The tension between duty and desire sits just beneath the surface of a marriage built on wealth and the promise of security. Barbara, now married to Dr. Severino Benci, Claudio Bisio, finds herself entangled in a web of secrets when she crosses paths with Lillo again. Dr. Benci is a powerful man with his own private affairs, and his attention becomes unexpectedly directed toward Carlotta, further complicating loyalties within this famille of intertwined lives.
Meanwhile, a second thread follows the Benci family through a busy academic and cosmopolitan night: Dr. Severino Benci’s loyal assistant, Filippo Vessato, Fabio De Luigi, is sent to New York with a delicate mission. He must deliver an antique medical parchment to his son Francesco Benci, Francesco Mandelli, who studies at the same university in New York. Francesco is a carefree student who parties much more than he studies, reveling in the student life and the social circles that come with it. The task is meant to be straightforward, but Filippo soon finds himself drawn into the mischief of Francesco and his cousin Paolo Benci, Paolo Ruffini, two fellow underachievers whose antics pull Filippo deeper into a world of temptation and blurred boundaries. As the group revels in a psychedelic-lit university party, Filippo meets Sylvia, Erika J. Othen, a college cheerleader who captures his attention and complicates his sense of duty and loyalty.
Filippo’s dilemma grows as he falls in love with Sylvia and begins to bend the truth to protect his new circle. He tries to cover for the others, telling Dr. Benci that Francesco is poised to receive a prestigious “Student of the Year” award, even as the truth starts to slip away. The tension mounts when Dr. Benci himself travels to New York to inspect the situation and confirm the report, forcing Filippo to navigate a tightening circle of suspicion, romance, and deception. The prospect of marriage looms for Filippo as well; he is due to marry the love of his life in the days ahead, a young woman named Mary, Amanda Gabbard, whose own story is bound up with her family’s reactions and expectations. Mary’s father, Roy Yeager, Roy Yeager, and mother, Pamela Paul, Pamela Paul, add their own twists to the narrative, bringing in family pressures and festive anxieties that mirror the chaos in New York.
As Christmas in New York approaches, the fates of Camillo, Milena, Barbara, Carlotta, and Francesco, Paolo, and Filippo collide in a crescendo of revelations and reversals. The holiday shimmer heightens the emotional stakes: loyalties are tested, old flames flare up, and new desires threaten the stability each character has built. The lives of these three groups—wealth, literature and music, and youthful rebellion—intertwine through a series of chance encounters, staged deceptions, and heartfelt moments that remind them, and the audience, of the costs and rewards of pursuing happiness in a city that never sleeps. In the end, Christmas in New York brings both surprises and reckonings, leaving each character to face the consequences of love, ambition, and the choices they have made along the way. The season’s magic intersects with human frailty, creating a rich tapestry of humor, sentiment, and moral ambiguity that stays true to the spirit of the holidays.
