In a quiet village, Chinna Vandu runs a small kuthuvilakku shop, weaving a life around family, festival nights, and the steady heartbeat of daily work. His two elder brothers, Paranjothi and Paranthavan, are long past the age of courting, which adds a gentle pressure to his days. Chinna Vandu, who grew up under the care of his uncle’s family, begins to see Vanaroja, a dental student visiting the village to spend time with her grandmother and take part in the local festival, through a new, tender lens. He tries to win her heart with little acts of humor and consideration, hoping to spark a smile or a shared moment, but she remains elusive at first, keeping her distance as the festival lights flicker around them.
The festival scene brings a turning point. Vanaroja’s ring goes missing, and her father, Poongavanam, announces a substantial reward of ₹1 lakh. Only Chinna Vandu manages to recover the ring, and in a surprising display of generosity he hands the prize to a poor woman instead of keeping it for himself, because Vanaroja does not yet return his feelings. This selfless gesture begins to soften her reserve, and a new feeling starts to bloom between them.
To confirm his own heart, Chinna Vandu sets a personal test: he wants to know whether Vanaroja truly loves him. The reveal comes in a quiet moment of honesty—Vanaroja loves him too. She leaves the village to return home, only to discover that her father has arranged an engagement with Krishna, planned for her birthday. On that crucial night, Chinna Vandu arrives to offer a birthday wish, and in a bold breath they decide to escape from Krishna and his henchmen.
Chinna Vandu then shares the extraordinary news with his cousin, Soori, telling him they have eloped. Soori tries to chart a path for their future, but Chinna Vandu insists they have already chosen their path together. Soori guides them to hide their marriage and head toward his family’s home in Kumbakonam. He brings Vanaroja to Chinna Vandu’s house, presenting her as someone who has faced hardship, and the family accepts her with open arms. In this new dynamic, Chinna Vandu’s brothers begin to care for Vanaroja, adding a layer of warmth to the household that was not there before.
Yet happiness collides with tradition when their father contemplates marrying Vanaroja off to Paranjothi. The young couple face the pressure of family expectations, and Vanaroja urges Chinna Vandu to be open with his parents. They navigate the tension together, their bond strengthening as they choose to stay true to one another rather than yield to an arranged match. Soon, Vanaroja discovers she is pregnant, a Shocking turn that forces her to leave the house in fear and pain. The looming threat of Krishna’s men intensifies the stakes, and Vanaroja is captured in a dangerous kidnapping.
Chinna Vandu pursues the captors, engaging in a fierce confrontation that ends with him gaining the upper hand. However, he is confronted by the broader family’s disapproval, and his father, Sambandham, is slow to accept the unfolding events. In a defining moment, Poongavanam speaks up, arguing that a daughter’s happiness should come first. His appeal ultimately softens Sambandham, and the family learns to look past tradition in favor of the couple’s well‑being.
What unfolds is a story of love tested by age-old expectations, generosity that reshapes a village, and a family learning to place happiness and genuine affection above schedule and convention. Through every twist—humor that once softened Vanaroja’s heart, the peril of elopement, the pregnancy, the kidnapping, and the final reluctant acceptance—the film keeps a steady, compassionate tone, inviting viewers to witness how love, courage, and a supportive family can redefine a crowded, tradition-rich life.
