In rural Burma, a baby girl is born into a poverty-stricken family where work, gambling, and drinking cloud the parents’ attention. The household dynamics are cold and neglectful, and the girl’s early years are shaped by a tough environment that never quite supports her ambitions.

After escalating domestic conflict at home, she leaves and seeks refuge with her grandmother, uncle, and aunt. There, she faces another barrier: she is not allowed to pursue schooling and is instead kept busy with household chores, a cycle that stifles her growing sense of possibility. A grave act of abuse by a family member comes to light, forcing her to flee once more into a harsh, uncertain world. The streets become both a refuge and a danger, where survival requires steady nerves and difficult choices.

On the streets, a boy shows care for her, and they share a moment of connection. Yet this relationship falters when he leaves her for another girl, breaking her trust and leaving her more exposed to the vulnerabilities of street life. A man appears who seems to offer protection and a way out, but his real plan is to smuggle her away to another country, a betrayal she senses too late and escapes from again.

As she runs, memories of the long arc of hardship she has endured resurface, pressing on her conscience and fear. Her flight leads her through a dark forest, a symbolic passage that culminates in an unimaginable outcome: she discovers she is pregnant.
