The action opens on a musical staff where Mr. B Natural lives, Betty Luster gently introducing himself and explaining what it means to be a spirit of music. Awaiting a call for help, he notices Buzz Turner, Bruce Podewell a lonely junior high student who loves music but is too shy to join dances or engage with others. Buzz longs to be part of the music crowd, yet his hesitation keeps him on the sidelines, even when a girl invites him to a dance. Disheartened, he returns home and puts on a record, which magically summons the pixie into his bedroom. The spirit uses magic, song, and dance to persuade Buzz to take up the trumpet, offering encouragement and a playful push toward self-confidence.
