Tom and Jerry’s classic cat-and-mouse chaos unfolds in a bustling household, where a simple chase spirals into a messy, comic showdown. Tom the cat pursues Jerry through the garden, sprinting through a muddy puddle and rushing into the house, leaving a wet, muddy trail on the kitchen floor just after Mammy Two-Shoes, Lillian Randolph (voice) (uncredited) has finished cleaning. As punishment, she orders Tom to scrub the floor and keep the house spotless, then heads out to go shopping, delivering a stern warning:

we is gonna be minus one cat around here.

With Mammy gone, Jerry wastes no time turning the house into a playground for mischief. He launches a playful, yet troublesome rampage: emptying the ashtray onto the floor, squirting ink from a fountain pen into a pail, juggling food, and even dragging an old horse into the room. In a sneaky move, he nudges an ink stamp pad onto Tom’s paws while the cat is napping, leaving a long, conspicuous trail of paw prints across the living room. The chaos escalates as Tom responds with a swift move, tossing Jerry down the laundry chute into the basement and promptly cleaning up the mess he’s made to restore some order.

The situation takes another wild turn when a coal truck arrives to deliver fuel. Jerry, always one step ahead, uses a rope to pull the truck’s delivery chute up to the living room window, flooding the house with coal and turning the tidy space into a smoky, smoky-saturated mess in an instant. When Mammy returns from shopping and surveys the scene, she blames Tom for the chaos, and Tom bolts in a frantic bid to escape.

As the chase continues, Mammy’s frustration finds a physical outlet: she hurls lumps of coal at Tom, and one heavy strike knocks him out, ending this round of their ongoing feud even as the mischief-and-mayhem promise to resume in the next scene.
