What Is Monangambeee About?
The premise of Monangambeee without spoilers.
Sarah Maldoror, a theater‑trained filmmaker‑griot, used the camera to highlight African decolonisation wars while Vietnam dominated headlines. Her short Monangambée shows Portuguese torture of an Angolan resistance sympathiser, adapted from Luandino Vieira’s novel. Shot in Algiers, it received a soundtrack from the Art Ensemble of Chicago after a Paris concert, evidencing African‑American solidarity and the divide between coloniser and colonised.
