Mike’s New Car 2002

Mike unveils a gleaming six-wheel drive car and can’t wait to show it off to his best friend, Sulley, who looks a bit puzzled by Mike’s sheer excitement and the mystery of what happened to Mike’s old car.

Inside the cabin, the car’s features quickly become a source of chaos and comedy. The adjustable power seat invites a bit of mischief, and Sulley toys with it until Mike, clearly annoyed, tells him to stop. Mike starts the engine, and the ever-present seatbelt reminder chimes away. Sulley buckles up with ease, but Mike discovers his seatbelt is stubbornly stuck, landing him in a scramble that ends with him inadvertently being locked out of the car while trying to free it. He orders Sulley to push the door unlock button so he can reenter, but Sulley, overwhelmed by the abundance of dashboard buttons, hits the one that releases the hood instead. Mike tries to close it, but the hood sits too high for him to reach; Sulley, trying to help, accidentally shuts it on Mike’s fingers, causing a sharp cry of pain. Sulley quickly apologizes and helps, yet, in a mishap, ends up sending Mike flying toward the engine and trapping him inside when the hood snaps shut.

Mike calls Sulley on his cell phone to reopen the hood so he can escape and close it again. Back in the car, the seatbelt reminder continues to nag, and the windshield wipers suddenly spring to life for no obvious reason, adding to Mike’s frustration. He tells Sulley not to touch anything and resolves to handle the controls himself, but a mishap turns the car into a carnival of malfunctions. A loud Latin beat blares from the stereo as more buttons are pressed, and the vehicle lurches from one glitch to another.

After a while, Mike finally ends the spectacle by pulling the key from the ignition, hoping to restore some order. The chaos culminates when Sulley accidentally causes the rearview mirror to break during a realignment attempt. Frustrated, Mike ejects Sulley from the car and speeds off, leaving the vehicle in a drastic, destructive finale. Sulley comments that the airbag didn’t deploy—and is surprised when it does moments later, inflating and sending Mike flying once again. Sulley catches him, and Mike concedes that he misses his old car.

As the credits roll, Mike fondly reminisces about his old ride before agreeing to walk to work with Sulley, the pair sharing a quieter moment after the wild earlier chaos.
