Two adults, Rajeevan, an advocate, and Nandita, a writer, anchor the story. Rajeevan is married to Rekha, a bank employee, and they have two kids, while Nandita is married to Mukundan, a businessman based in the Persian Gulf, and she has a daughter. Both lead their respective family lives with a sense of happiness and routine, until a small mistake upends their worlds and brings them into each other’s orbit.

A mix-up in the cakes ordered for their kids becomes the unlikely spark that brings the two into contact. They meet by chance, and what begins as polite conversation gradually reveals a deeper, almost telepathic compatibility—their tastes and ways of thinking align closely, creating a sense of intimate connection between them.

That bond deepens when Rajeev recounts a childhood incident bearing uncanny resemblance to a detail from Nandita’s short story. She realizes he is her childhood friend—someone she leaned on in times of distress. A growing emotional chemistry forms, which Rajeev mistakes for love and openly expresses his feelings. Nandita’s response is cautious; she tries to distance him, even as she ultimately gifts him her book, “Megha Malhar,” and confesses that she is indeed his childhood friend.

Ultimately, the two decide to part ways. Rajeev agrees never to meet her again, and the pair take one final journey together to Kanyakumari—the place of their shared childhood—before choosing to live as strangers once more.
