On his very first day, Havaldar Ratan, a fresh-faced rookie at the local police station, is assigned to a foot patrol on Manoranjan Street, a notorious red-light district. He strikes up a conversation with a good-looking young woman named Nisha and tells her there might be a violation of the Suppression of Immoral Trafficking Act. He watches as several women solicit men and, convinced he has a solid case, calls for the paddy wagon to arrest them. Alas, one of the men who frequents the prostitutes is none other than his own superior officer, who immediately summons him and has him removed from service on corruption charges.
Left to face the consequences, Nisha takes pity on a homeless and unemployed Ratan and invites him to live with her. He does not want her to sell her body, so he decides to work at night, and by day he assumes the persona of a wealthy Nawab to spend time with her. Things go along smoothly, until Ratan decides that it is time to get rid of the Nawab, and he does so, only to discover that the police have been informed that he killed the Nawab, and they are closing in. What follows is a wave of chaotic comedy and escalating complications that will alter Ratan and Nisha’s lives forever.
