In the desolate town of Lakhot, Rajasthan, the film follows Satyaveer Randhawa, Abhay Deol, a public works engineer whose career and personal life have both hit a low ebb. The landscape mirrors his mood: dry, sunbaked, and oddly quiet. He returns to a tense home where his wife, Nimmi, Gul Panag, nagging and irritable, juggles the demands of their young son. At the same time, Satyaveer is a frustrated writer; his only novel, Manorama Sarika, disappeared without a trace, leaving him to wrestle with a once-bright dream now buried under routine and disappointment.

One night, a woman claiming to be the wife of the Irrigation Minister and ex-Maharaja P. P. Rathore visits him. A devoted fan of his detective tale Manorama, she hires him to photograph Rathore’s supposed affair. Satyaveer agrees and secretly observes Rathore, capturing images of a woman being turned away at his estate. He hands over the film to the visitor and confides in his brother-in-law, Brij Mohan, a local cop Vinay Pathak, who warns him that something about the whole setup feels off.

Driven by curiosity, Satyaveer digs deeper and learns that Manorama was connected to a local children’s home and shared a room with a woman named Sheetal Raima Sen. When he attempts to revisit Manorama’s room, Sheetal initially refuses to speak. Later, thugs—who were the same men who chased Manorama on the night of her death—attack him, seeking the truth about what she told him that night. After a brutal confrontation, Satyaveer discovers that Manorama’s death was an accident: she was struck by a truck while fleeing her pursuers.

Returning to Manorama’s room, he finds the place wrecked and Sheetal badly injured. She grows fond of him and asks to stay for a while, especially since Nimmi has returned to her parents’ house for Diwali. Satyaveer agrees, and Sheetal moves in for a short period. Around this time, he attends a rally where Rathore appears and notices that Rathore receives regular medication from a doctor for an unknown ailment. He also spots the woman who visited him the night he took the photos and learns she is linked to Rathore’s circle.

The trail widens as he follows the woman and discovers she lives with the doctor, Dr. Anil Poddar. She turns out to be Sameera Rathore, Rathore’s illegitimate daughter, who is trying to win acceptance from her father. Satyaveer begins to connect the parts, but when he visits the doctor, both the doctor and Sameera are brutally murdered. He and Sheetal discuss their next move and almost kiss, but a phone call from his wife snaps him back to reality.

He races back to the children’s home only to learn that Sheetal has been dead for around 8–10 days and that the woman who has been living with him is an impostor—Neetu, Rathore’s concubine. Neetu reveals herself and forces Satyaveer to hand over the photographs to Rathore. The journalist in him comes alive as he resolves to confront the minister.

Back in a tense showdown, Satyaveer exposes Rathore as a pedophile who exploited children from the orphanage. He reveals that Manorama and Dr. Poddar were related and had uncovered Rathore’s crimes, a truth they were silenced for. Neetu tries to seduce him on Rathore’s orders, but he resists. He also explains that Rathore, already battling terminal lung cancer, had been fed placebos to keep him alive long enough to name Sameera as his heir—but now the scheme has collapsed. Rathore’s wife, hearing the full story, laughs in relief.

As the escape unfolds, a goon who is asthmatic is slapped by Satyaveer, and the man starts choking on a peanut. Yet Satyaveer walks away, unscathed, muttering that there must be a god somewhere who listens if you ask, “Is anyone there?” Is anyone there?

In a pink taxi, he ultimately makes his way to a terminal where he is joyfully reunited with Nimmi and their son. The film closes on a note of relief and renewal, with the sense that truth, courage, and family can endure even in a world of corruption and silence.
