Shot primarily from the perspective of the protagonist, Frank Zito (Elijah Wood) is a deeply troubled young man grappling with his mental health after the passing of his mother, Angela (America Olivo). Responsible for the family business of mannequin sales, Frank’s childhood memories are tainted by disturbing flashbacks of his mother’s life as a part-time prostitute, which have profoundly affected his ability to forge healthy relationships with women. Haunted by violent impulses often triggered by memories of his mother’s mistreatment, Frank finds himself unable to cope with the pain of his past.

In a disturbing turn, he becomes involved in a series of tragic events, including stalking and murdering a young street worker named Judy. Consumed by his obsession, he adorns a mannequin with her hair, which he keeps in his bedroom. While desperately seeking normalcy, Frank ventures into the world of online dating and meets a local girl named Lucie (Megan Duffy), leading to a date that takes an unsettling turn as his violent tendencies resurface. Despite Lucie’s attempts to connect with him, Frank’s internal struggle culminates in a harrowing moment where he takes her life, once again attaching her hair to another mannequin.

The next day, Frank encounters Anna (Nora Arnezeder), a photographer fascinated by his work. Their budding friendship offers Frank a glimpse of hope, but his compulsion to kill remains ever-present. As Anna prepares for an art exhibit featuring Frank’s mannequins, he tries to suppress his dark urges, even resorting to pharmaceuticals in an effort to control himself. Nonetheless, he is unable to resist the call of violence, leading him to commit another gruesome act against a woman he follows home.

With the exhibit approaching, Frank learns of Anna’s boyfriend, Jason, igniting jealousy within him. His confrontation with Jason only heightens the tension, and at the opening night, Frank feels a wave of insecurity as he faces not only Jason but also Anna’s artistic mentor, Rita (Jan Broberg Felt). Frank’s fragile mental state deteriorates further after a drunken encounter with Rita, resulting in a violent act as Frank subdues her, projecting his unresolved feelings of abandonment onto her before brutally murdering her.

After hearing the news of Rita’s murder, Anna’s suspicions of Frank grow as they share an emotionally charged moment. What begins as an attempt to console her quickly escalates into chaos as Anna discovers Frank’s horrific secret. A violent confrontation ensues, leading to a desperate struggle for survival.

Frank’s dark journey ultimately reaches a climax as he tries to eliminate Anna. Yet, in a twist of fate, she gains the upper hand and escapes, leading to a shocking series of events that culminate in tragedy for both. The convoluted path driven by Frank’s psychological demons leads him down a path of self-destruction, ending with a police SWAT team discovering him in his grim apartment, surrounded by the remnants of his violent past—the scalps of his victims.

In a harrowing and tragic conclusion, Frank is confronted not only with the consequences of his actions but also with the haunting manifestations of his victims, leaving a chilling image of a man overwhelmed by his obsessions and the darkness that consumed him.
