Kevin Ryan, Ted Jan Roberts, is an 11-year-old karate champion from Kalamazoo, Michigan. He spends his summer in California with his uncle Bob Ryan, Stephen Furst, and his girlfriend Anita. His older sister Megan Ryan, Shonda Whipple, is coming along as well.

Bob runs a management bureau for clown acts, but he is in debt and owes $10,000 to a mafioso named Tony, Joseph Campanella. The mounting pressure shows in his days, and he leans on alcohol, starting and ending each day with a bottle of Jack Daniels.

To recover the money, Tony sends his nephew and two enforcers to Bob’s home. Kevin witnesses the intruders as they move through the house to claim $15,000, and the sight pushes him to step forward. He offers to help his uncle confront the danger, showing the resolve that comes with years of karate training. Meanwhile, Megan heads to a club in search of her idol, Tommy Hart; the trouble begins when the hoodlums spot her and intend to kidnap her.

The situation sharpens as Bob and Kevin realize Megan’s peril. They rush to her aid, catching the attackers off guard and driving several of them away. The confrontation escalates with the appearance of a formidable figure known as The Animal — a large, imposing foe who represents a serious test for the trio.

Just as the odds look bleak, Don Wilson, Don Wilson, arrives as himself to help turn the tide and bring the danger to a close. The story centers on family loyalty, quick thinking, and the courage of a pair of young cousins who stand up to danger with unexpected help from a guest star, culminating in a resolution that leaves the household safer and more united.
